Choose a draft
Set the name, four-digit year, main line, optional quote, and motif. Leave the quote blank if the center feels crowded. The preview updates as you type and will stop export when a field exceeds its limits or the width is outside eight to ten inches. Review the preview once at normal size and once at a smaller zoom level.
Print a planning copy
Select Print planning sketch. The new print view contains the design and an explicit notice that Letter output is scaled. Check the printer preview for clipped edges, unexpected headers, or an extra page. Save as PDF through the browser print dialog if you need a review copy. A PDF saved this way is still a scaled sketch.
Mark physical constraints
On the paper, pencil in the cap’s actual top width, seam allowance, and tassel-button location. Use the sketch to decide whether any word may sit beneath the button. If the cap has an irregular corner or raised ridge, note that too. The digital square is intentionally simple and does not model the shape of every manufactured cap.
Move to production
When the graduate approves the wording, download the measured SVG. Open it in vector software or take it to a print provider capable of the desired size or tiling. Before adhering anything to the cap, assemble and measure a paper version. This last paper check catches incorrect printer scaling and placement that the browser preview cannot detect.
Try this next
Keep the planning print with the cap until the full-size version is ready. Mark the intended top edge and any rotation directly on the paper. A square design can look correct in any orientation on screen, while a cap may have a clear front once it is worn.
